One Direction. We heart them |
The prize giving itself is set to be a magical time and the super cool and trendy Lauren Laverne and Nick Grimshaw will be presenting the show while bands with strange names such as Desert Gorillas and Gliding Vultures (please note, these are completely made up) will be performing while we pretend to be super cool and know what's going on.
So, before the evening kicks off and we use up all our energy being all musically sophisticated, we thought we'd get a bit of silliness out by celebrating the music we love and generally spilling some words out onto the screen in front of your eyes in honour of some of our favourite musical stars after the Mercury people announced their Albums of the Year last month.
In no particular order...
One Direction
We all love a bit of One Direction, don't we? Well, that was a bit of a stupid question. Every human being worldwide has even just a little bit of love for the 1D lads. Before we even get to their music we've got likes of curly-haired Harry Styles being amazing with the ladies and super-hunk Liam Payne literally looking fitter by the minute. However, with songs like Live While We're Young and Kiss you on their last album Take Me Home and the excellently-named tune Best Song Ever on their upcoming release Midnight Memories, what's not to like? One Direction, welcome to our music hall of fame.
Katy Perry
Katy Perry holds a special place in our hearts. She's just a lovely lady who uses her voice to make sounds in our ears which are very nice indeed. But the lead single, Roar, from her latest album Prism is pretty amazing and fills us with delight. So, while she might not be singing about California Gurls anymore and has favoured the sounds of beasts, we had no choice but to chuck her on our list.
Beyonce
Ah, the one they call Bey-ons. The queeniest B of them all. She may not have released a new album since 2011 but we're still singing tracks from her 2008 album I Am... Sasha Fierce which shows Beyonce is a star who really is standing the test of time. So, Bey-bey, if we can call you that, we salute you!
Lady Gaga
Now, Lady Gaga may be one crazy lady sometimes but we love her for it. And not only does she keep us entertained with what she wears and the unusual things she does, she writes some great pop music which drills its way into our brains and makes us sing it on repeat. From the days of Poker Face to her recent release Applause, Gaga never disappoints. We're just looking forward to what she chooses to thrown on her body the next time she takes to the stage especially for us.
Little Mix
These wonderful humans were announced as the winners of the X Factor back in 2011 which is brilliant for us because they have been keeping us entertained with their musical excellence ever since. And it must be in their DNA (see what we did there?) to do so as these little firecrackers just keep going and going. Come on, you know you like to dance to a bit of Little Mix on a night out. Don't kid yourself!
Miley Cyrus
Ol' Miley is HOT right now. In fact, it's a good thing she spends a lot of the time across the pond or flying through the air on a plane because if we were to get anywhere near her we would definitely melt into a mess of molten skin and general human goop on the floor. Disgusting. But, how can the artist formerly known as Hannah Montana not make our list of special music stars when she swings around naked on a wrecking ball and does strange things with a foam finger while twerking?
Britney Spears
It's Britney b**ch! Oh, baby, baby has Britters been amazing to us. For many good reasons, and for some bad, we love this popstrel as if she were one of our own. Brit has had a tough ride over the years with the odd bit of head shaving and a couple of tours of Los Angeles petrol stations in search of public toilets while speaking in a bad British accent but we love her nonetheless. And with a recent visit to the UK plus her latest song Work B**ch, don't pretend you don't love her too.
Kanye West
Kanye West may not be to everyone's taste. Yes, he shouts at the paparazzi and seems to think he is a bit special. Well, A LOT special. But he does do a bit of rapping once in a while. However, to make our list in celebration of erm, a music awards ceremony, you don't have to be all about the tunes (yes, we know we're playing it a bit fast and loose here). In our eyes Kanye is amazing because he is the fiancé of Kueen of reality television Kim Kardashian. On a daily basis Kim brightens up our lives with her beauty and glamour and now Kanye is involved, the love they have for each other and themselves means our love for them is even stronger. Well done Kanye (and Kim)!
JLS
Ah JLS. They've kept us happy over the years but earlier this year they let us down by announcing their time was coming to an end as a band and they were due to go their separate ways in just a few months. SOB! However, the boys are special and do you know why? Because they think about their fans by giving us time to get over the split by not doing it right away. And before it happens we've still got an album of their greatest hits to look forward to. Thanks lads!
The Saturdays
The Saturdays are a bunch of legends simply because they pump out a lovely bit of classic pop. The girls may not be right in our faces all the time which is fair enough - a lot of them are off looking after their babies, being pregnant, or having a jolly old time with their husbands. Fair play to them. But, how can the girls not make our list when band member Una Healy does amazing things like rub her baby bump in the video recorded before the birth of her daughter for the group's song 30 Days while they are supposed to be speed.
