Daily Mirror Online - Tokyo - Japan was very disappointed with the statement of the President of South Korea (ROK ) Park Geun - Hye stated , meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's of no use , officials said on Tuesday ( 5/11 ) .

The comments came after Park said the meeting will not bear fruit for both parties if Tokyo refused to apologize for " past mistakes " .

Various acts of harassment committed during the Japanese occupation in 1910-1945 remains a source of anger and resentment in the South , especially the treatment of women who are forced to work as " comfort women " in Japanese military brothels during the war .

" We are very disappointed with the statement in an interview " with the BBC , said deputy cabinet secretary Katsunobu Kato .

" Japan has told South Korea's position on issues of our past such as the perception of women's history and entertainers , and we have asked them to accept it , " said Kato .

Japanese politicians expressed frustration about repeated requests on the part of South Korea regrets Japan related application , and cited a number of apology and an agreement for normalized relations in 1965 and the payment of a large quantity to Seoul .

Abe and Park , both in power since 12 months ago , has not made an official meeting even if they had met in several international agenda .

" South Korea is an important neighbor that share fundamental values and interests with us , therefore, Japan will continue its efforts to build cooperation , " said Kato .

" Prime Minister Abe has always said we should do the summit because we have a problem , " he said .

The spat between the two countries was dizzying Washington who want to embrace the two allies in Asia , especially with the growing power of China .

In an interview with the BBC released on Monday ahead of a visit to England , Park said the issue of the interpretation of history and comfort women have not " solved or overcome " .

" If Japan continues to survive on the perception of history and repeat the same comments are used , then what is the purpose of the meeting ? Maybe it's better that there is no meeting , " he said .

" If they continue to say no need to apologize , and do not need to admit their past mistakes , then what can be gained from the meeting ? " In a statement in 1995 , the Japanese say " the issue causing the damage and suffering to the people in many countries , especially Asian nations " in the first half of the 20th century . Former prime minister Tomiichi Murayama was " very sorry " and reveal apology .

In a statement in 1993 , on behalf of the future cabinet secretary Yohei Kono , Japan expressed " sincere apologies " for the women who are forced into prostitution .

But disclosures by conservative Japanese politicians that would lead to anger , especially in Seoul , who argued that Tokyo does not show sincerity .

Conservative daily Sankei Shimbun from the party on Tuesday said the Japanese foreign ministry last month issued a document stating that " since the early 1990s South Korea has expressed its stance that the issue of comfort women was not included in the 1965 compensation agreement " .

The document states that the constitutional court ruling in 2011 that ordered the South Korean Seoul to reopen negotiations with Tokyo on compensation for comfort women " could threaten the foundations of Japanese - South Korean relations ."
